Public Library Flooring Updates

Project Details: The Bourbonnais Public Library hired Carlile Architects to create a flooring design to enhance the library’s layout, serving both functional and aesthetic purposes.
The design incorporated a variety of flooring types to delineate various zones within the library, such as quiet study areas, collaborative spaces, circulation desks, and reading corners. Carpet in quiet spaces helps absorb sound for noise reduction and creates a cozy atmosphere, while installing luxury vinyl plank in high-traffic areas helps withstand heavy foot traffic while remaining warm and inviting. Tile was chosen for the restrooms for its durability and water resistance, making it easy to clean and maintain.
The use of different colors, shapes, and patterns of carpet tiles makes it easier for patrons to navigate and understand the layout intuitively. This is especially helpful for users with visual impairments and those who are unfamiliar with the library’s organization.
To ensure a safe environment large area rugs were placed over the LVT in the vestibule where moisture is common from the entry and water fountains.
