Maintenance Building Addition (IDOT)

District 3 Improvements

IDOT District 3 Garages
Ottawa Maintenance Building Addition
New accessible entrance ramp
Maintenance Building ADA Compliant Restroom

Overview:  The existing restrooms at the Ottawa Vehicle Maintenance Facility for the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) didn't meet ADA compliance standards and was too small for the building's occupancy.

Project Details: Carlile Architects designed a new addition to better serve the needs of the facility crew. The new addition to the building provided new independent restrooms to accommodate space issues. Restrooms feature multiple fixtures to promote a healthy and comfortable environment for employees. A new custodial closet allows for the efficient and effective maintenance of the building facilities. The new space features durable furnishings able to withstand wear and tear over an extended period and is conveniently accessible from the existing staff break room.

To make the facility more inclusive, an existing restroom was transformed and includes an ADA-compliant shower stall for employee use. Additional improvements involved replacing the flooring in the second-floor offices, installing a new ADA-compliant access ramp, and identifying and abating existing hazardous materials.

The scope of work also included HVAC, plumbing, fixtures, and electrical system upgrades.

Project Year: 2017 - 2018

Location: Ottawa, IL

Scope: Design, Documentation, and Construction Administration.
